Opening of “Society Under Pressure” on July 12

Was bedeutet „Druck“ – jenseits von Technik und Maschine? Und wie wirkt Druck, wenn er nicht nur Material verformt, sondern auch Menschen, Biografien und gesellschaftliche Beziehungen? Werke zu diesem Themenkomplex werden in der neuen Ausstellung „Gesellschaft unter Druck“ im Museum Modern Art ausgestellt.

The exhibition focuses on works by Guido Kühn, Christian Fischer, and the sculptor Patricia Kühn Meisenheimer. Together, they explore “print” as a visible trace and an invisible force. On display are classical and experimental prints, photographs, video art, and interactive installations.

The interactive installations take center stage. They reflect our digital everyday life (feeds, rankings, metrics), in which new pressure arises not from visible force but from constant feedback and expectations of optimization.

Through a dramaturgically structured sequence of spaces, the exhibition connects what images do technically (shape, standardize) with what social structures do to people (normalize, accelerate, evaluate). 

It demonstrates why pressure continues to rise as a result of digitalization and raises fundamental questions about material and power in everyday life.

The opening reception for the exhibition “Society Under Pressure” will take place on Sunday, July 12, at 3:00 p.m. in the entrance area of the pavilions. Martina Sauerbier, Chair of the Foundation’s Advisory Board, will deliver the welcome remarks, and Prof. Christian Fischer will provide the introductory remarks.
